Happy New Decade!

I never really thought much about 2010 being the start of a new decade. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, considering I had seen the beginning of a new millennium in my lifetime.

But the other day I came across The New York Times' Documenting the Decade, a collection a readers' photos from the last 10 years. As I started to gander through the photos, I realized that a lot had happened in 10 years.

There were some startling — yet beautiful — photos of New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. That, of course, made me think of where I was on that day. As I already reflected this year, I was a sophomore in high school at the time. No really, I was just a sophomore in high school. It's really hard to believe that in less than one decade, I have gone from a punk in high school to a reporter in her second year on the job.

I started high school in the fall of 2000. Our class left a lot of great memories there. We were the last class to graduate in the old high school gym at Edger…
